Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed track in the world within 6 months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop which not only brought attention to Latin music but also reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish mostly, and four songs in the year 2016. At the peak of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix of Despacito (2017) well-known artists began to collaborate with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna with Maluma in Medellin (2019). In 2020, several Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the trend of the genre towards the mainstream. Yet, a young generation, such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to keep the trend going. He incorporated electronic dance styles as well as other styles into his music.
